You are in for a swinging good time on Saturday, October 1, as Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute kicks off its 2011-12 Concerts in the Court Series with Austin’s Hot Club of Cowtown. Their name says it all: “Hot Club” in honor of Django Reinhardt and Stéphane Grapelli, and “Cowtown” because they deliver western swing that would make Bob Wills and His Texas Playboys weep (in a good way).

Hot Club of Cowtown

Guitarist Whit Smith, fiddler Elana James, and bassist Jake Erwin keep busy recording albums – eleven since 1998! – and touring, from Sydney to Azerbaijan (no, really!), and opening for the likes of Bob Dylan and Willie Nelson (no, really!).

This is their most recent album

And they receive rave reviews where they go. Here’s what Derek Raymaker, Toronto Globe & Mail, reports:

The young band distinguishes itself by its technical musicianship and vast acreage of diverse styles alone, but it seals the deal on stage, subtly and methodically casting aside the audience’s daily worries and levitating the room into a dreamy salon of carefree abandon. Even the heartbreak songs are served sunny-side up.

Sounds like a good time! Learn more about buying tickets and other relevant stuff here.
