Michael Somple has served as Registrar and Exhibition Manager at MWPAI since April 2011. He has held positions at the Picker Art Gallery at Colgate University in Hamilton, New York; the Columbus Museum of Art in Columbus, Ohio; the Emerson Gallery at Hamilton College in Clinton, New York; the Yale Center for British Art in New Haven, Connecticut; the Museum of Science and Technology in Syracuse, New York; and the Dayton Art Institute in Dayton, Ohio.
As curatorial assistant at the Columbus Museum of Art, he organized the exhibition “Trees from the Forest: Photographs from the Permanent Collection” (2002) and co-organized the exhibition “The American Tintype” (2003).
From 2007 to 2008, Michael was the curatorial research assistant at MWPAI where he co-authored the catalogue raisonné Auspicious Vision: Edward Wales Root and American Modernism and organized the exhibition “Branches of Root's Bequest: Edward Wales Root's Other Gifts” (2007-08).
Michael, a member of the American Association of Museums since 2000, holds a bachelor's degree in art history and communications from the University of Dayton in Dayton, Ohio, and received a master's degree in museum studies from Syracuse University.
