Character Design

With Sean Usyk | All Levels | Ages 16 +

Do you have a passion for drawing or storytelling, a desire to create custom characters, or want to improve current character design skills? If the answer is "yes!" then this course is for you. Character design can be seen everywhere from children’s book illustrations, video games, animated movies, board games, and comic books.

Discover the basic techniques of character design through exercises and a personal project during this summer course. Learn about anatomy, proportions, rhythm and balance in poses, research, and costuming of the human figure to be able to create a variety of characters. With an Emphasis on developing the drawing skills and shape design to create interesting, believable characters, students walk away with techniques to continue building expertise well after the class is over. Required materials list provided.

Meet your instructor, Sean!
He/His

SEAN UYSK received his BFA in illustration from Savannah College of Art and Design and his MFA in illustration from The Academy of Art University.  Drawing from his love for science, nature, the human figure, and traditional illustration, Sean's work focuses on dramatic lighting in a painterly application on characters and environments drawing the viewer into the beauty of the narrative. In addition to being a freelance artist, Sean also teaches illustration at Pratt Munson and MVCC sharing his passion for drawing, painting, and storytelling with exceptional students and future illustrators.
