Intro to Ceramic Sculpture: Construction + Composition

With Munson-Williams Artist in Residence Dehmie Dehmlow | Beginning - Intermediate

Work with artist Dehmie Demlow in Munson-Williams’ historic ceramics studios. Focus on creating sculptural and functional forms using a range of hand building techniques. Projects include using 2D templates to create 3D volumes, historical pot/object recreations, designing and creating cool usable sets or singular sculptural forms. All welcome, from total beginners to artists wishing to diversify their range of techniques.

Location: Ceramics Studios, 1211 State Street (Enter through Museum side of building near Fountain Elms) 
Cost: $380, Member: $360, Material Fee: $75

FIRING TICKETS
Firing fees are based on the measured volume of the finished pieces. Firing tickets are $2 each and available for purchase at the School of Art reception desk during business hours.

MATERIAL FEES
Required material fees cover the cost of full use of studio clay and glazes.

OPEN STUDIO TIMES
Students currently enrolled in an adult ceramics class may take advantage of open studio hours on Saturdays or Sundays from 8am - noon or 1-5pm. Open studio spots are limited and must be registered for in advance of attending via digital signup.

SPRING BREAK
No classes or open studio the week of March 13 - 19.

CLASS NOTE
Ceramics courses may sometimes require light lifting. Students should be able to occasionally lift up to 25 lbs.
 


 Meet your instructor, Dehmie!
She/Her

Dehmie Dehmlow grew up in Denver, Colorado in a big family. She makes pottery and mixed media modular sculptures using found materials, ceramics, and other fabricated objects.  Dehmie creates pottery and constructs mixed media modular sculptures in ceramics and found objects. She grew up in a big family in Denver, Colorado where she earned her BA in Ceramics and Pre-Medical Sciences from Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado. She completed a Post-Baccalaureate ceramics program at Louisiana State University and an MFA at University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Dehmie completed a year-long internship at Anderson Ranch Arts Center in Snowmass Village, Colorado before she was selected as the Salad Days Artist in Residence at Watershed Center for Ceramic Arts in Newcastle, Maine. Munson-Williams is thrilled to have Dehmie with us for the 2022-23 academic year as Ceramics Artist in Residence.
